How Can You Protect Your Optics in Public?
Ways to protect your optics can start with choosing how you party and socialize, since one moment can affect many moments, days and years to come. A clip taken out of context may be used by others against you down the line, in Loren Weisman’s view.
- Behaviors of a single moment can impact many moments, days and years to come.
- Asking whether to stop drinking or go home on a given night can protect how you come off.
- A mistake caught on TikTok, YouTube or a photo can be taken out of context and far away from your intention.
- Some people may look for those moments to tear down someone who knows their stuff.

Choosing How You Party and Socialize
Choose how you party wisely. Choose how you socialize wisely. My name is Loren Weisman. I’m a brand, communications and optics strategist.
And something that people don’t seem to grab a hold of these days yet has become an increasingly bigger problem is the behaviors of a moment and how they can impact many moments, days and years to come. If you are looking at doing this goes beyond politics.
Questions to Ask on a Night Out
If you are looking at doing anything out front in the public eye and you are not taking consideration of saying, should I stop that drinking on this night? At this point, should I go home?
At this point, should I think that how I may come off could be perceived in a negative way? Something that could be used against me down the line? Consider the optic. It’s fun to have fun, I get it.
A Moment Taken Out of Context
But right now, in the day of TikTok and YouTube and videos and photos, this little mistake that you make, this something that could be taken even out of context and perception and far away from your intention or the genuine meaning of it, it could be used by others to destroy you. And there are some people out there right now, that’s specifically what they’re doing.
They’re looking to say, okay, wow, this person really knows their stuff, or they’ve got something really special, let’s destroy them. Protect yourself, protect your optics. When you’re out in public, whether socially, professionally, any other way possible, consider that the actions, the words, the drinks, the resulting of being drunk, being stoned, being drugged, whatever could impact more than just that moment.
And in that consideration, it may help your optic today, tomorrow, next week, next month, next year. Be careful with what you choose to do and how you choose to do it in public, because you might not have the choice at how they choose to use that against you down the line.
