My Truth Versus the Truth: What Is the Difference?

My truth versus the truth can come down to this: “my truth” can be a label for what someone wishes were true, while the truth means the word as it is defined, in Loren Weisman’s view. Making sure anything called true is the truth and can be backed up may help, and a wish or an opinion can be stated as one.

  • A separate “your truth” or “my truth” may not hold up when truth means the word as it is defined.
  • Before claiming something is true, making sure it is the truth and that you can back it up can help.
  • Many people may call what they wish were true the truth, or say “this is my truth” once they are called out.
  • An opinion or a wish can be named as one, with words like “this is my opinion” said out loud.
  • Honoring the meaning of the word with those you work with, connect with and love can matter.

Your Truth, My Truth and the Truth

I don’t believe in your truth. I don’t believe in my truth. I believe in the truth. And that’s really all there is.

If you are calling truth what it’s supposed to be and the definition of the word. My name is Loren Weisman. I’m a brand communications and optics strategist. And I challenge you, I ask you, I beg you, when you claim something is true, make sure it is the truth.

Calling a Wish the Truth

Because all too often, many are shifting what they wish to be true as truth. Or if they’re getting called out for it, well, this is just my truth. Wrong truth. Let’s go to the definition.

Honoring the Word

Let’s honor the word. If something is genuinely true, let’s state it as a truth and be able to back it up. If it’s our opinion, if it’s what we wish, then let’s state, this is my opinion.

This is how I wish it was. Honor the words with those that you work with, with those that you connect with, with those that you love. Let’s make truth mean what it’s supposed to again.

Questions and Answers

What does it mean when someone says this is my truth?

“This is my truth” can be a way of presenting what someone wishes were true as the truth, or a defense used after being called out. That can be a wrong use of the word, since truth has a definition that can be honored, as Loren Weisman sees it.

How can you separate opinion from fact when you speak?

Separating opinion from fact can start with stating something as true only when it is true and can be backed up. When it is an opinion or a wish, saying so plainly, with words such as “this is how I wish it was” in place of calling it the truth, can help.

Why does the meaning of the word truth matter?

The meaning of the word truth can matter because truth is supposed to mean what its definition says. Honoring that meaning with those you work with, connect with and love may help truth mean what it is supposed to again.
