Song: Wait What Really OK. With your host, Loren Weisman. This is a fully licensed theme song for the show about stuff that makes you say Wait What Really OK.

Loren: Hi, this is Loren Weisman and we made those excuses when we were school. The dog ate my homework. Well, today the dog ate my editor. I apologize for any off, off the cuff resonating sounds.

I don’t have the normal editing here, but I do have a normal show. This is the brand messaging podcast. Wait What Really OK, I’m your host, Loren Weisman, and today we’re going to talk about podcasts. How about that? A podcast about a podcast.

The title of this episode is Podcast Guest Soliciting and Podcast Host Booking Tactics.

A culmination of about five sources, both in the US and in Europe have stated that as of September 2020, there are 1 million podcasts out there. Yes, it does feel like a lot of people, maybe not everyone, but a lot of people are podcasting and it’s been happening for a while now. And honorable strategies in podcast guest solicitation can elevate your podcast’s reach.

At the same time, bringing the authenticity through in the messaging, the authority through in the messaging. There are a lot of issues that have been rising up and are rising even higher from the standpoint of the people hosting and the podcasters themselves, as well as the people that are trying to become guests on these podcasts.

That’s what we’re going to hit today, both sides of the coin, and talk a little bit about being a guest. We’re going to talk a little bit about being a host and the ways to stand out. This also includes the ways to bury yourself.

I get a fair amount of emails and the structure of them, the impersonal template, the I’m sending these to 50,000 people, or for that matter, maybe a million. It doesn’t really excite me and it doesn’t make me want to bring these people that are sending these template pre written letters that have no personalization to them onto the show.

Personalized podcast guest solicitation emails can also often lead to higher response rates.

I don’t have that many guests on. Wait What Really OK, I do like to have the guests, but it’s got to be something where it’s authentic, it’s got the authority, and it has something relating to the show, the topic and the audience. And that hits right to the number one point.

Crafting authentic podcast guest solicitation requests is crucial for building relationships.

Are you creating a show for popularity? Is this about true authority and authenticity or is it a show about a popularity? And it’s fine if it is about popularity, but be truthful to yourself, be truthful to others. I see these people with business podcasts, entrepreneur podcasts, and they are just out there attacking for every guest, talking about Every trend, anything to get listening ears so that they can either do their advertising or get their numbers up.

Many podcasters overlook the art of podcast guest solicitation, which can hinder their growth.

To me and to a lot of other people, it doesn’t feel like a show that has any continuity, that has any flow, that has any organic messaging. And that’s fine if that’s what you’re about. Be that. But for these people that are saying authority, these people that are using the word authenticity, and I wish more people would step away from using the word authenticity and just being authentic. If you’re having a certain show and you want to get on a certain guest or you have an opportunity, how does that guest tie into you?

How does that guest tie into the flow, the show and everything that you’re doing? Because if it doesn’t, maybe that’s not the guest for you in the long run. We have so many people out there, so many podcasters that are jumping, I need this, I need this. I need this person. This person is hot. I’m going to email them. I get these emails. And this is hitting in the authenticity and the truth, the first section here of what you’re saying about your podcast. So I’m sorry, I get it.

Podcast Guest Solicitation Transcription, Loren Weisman Site IconPodcast Guest Solicitation Transcription Continued:

You’re on iHeart and you have the range of potentially 40 million listeners. That doesn’t mean you have a 40 million listener audience. And when I see that on the top of solicitation letters to me, I press delete. Just because somebody can turn on your show and you’re distributed somewhere makes up nothing to do with the metrics of your audience. It shows your reach.

That’s great. If you have reach and Maybe you’re on iHeart and Amazon Music and Pandora and Apple and Spreaker and Stitcher and all of those things. But I would rather be on a show or if somebody sent me something and a lot of other professionals feel this way too. I’d rather be on a show where someone is being authentic, being honest, being transparent. Hey, my show is new. This is the fifth episode I’m about to do. I’ve got it distributed to these places. I’m growing an audience. I’m not really there. That’s something that I respond to. And you might be surprised that a lot of other people will respond to that a lot quicker than when you sit there and state, I have this multi million reach because I’m here, here, here, here and here.

You know this is an iHeartRadio podcast. No, you’re on iHeartRadio at the same time you’re on Pandora and you can sign up and it doesn’t cost anything. Some of these people that put out this stuff, like, ooh, I’m on this site, or I’m on that site, I’m on Pandora. The thing that I posted once Pandora picked me up was I’m no Joe Rogan. I don’t have Joe Rogan’s numbers. But if you like Pandora and that’s where you like to listen to your podcast,

I’m available there. I chose a route of stating, okay, here I am and I’m on this place, but here’s how you can find me. And not saying all of a sudden I’m some massive player on Pandora, because I’m not. And I’m not on iHeart either. And I’m not. I’m not a major player anywhere. I’ve got a lot of distribution.

Wait What Really OK. Is in the better part of 50 major distributors and there’s some great listenership, but it’s not something to brag about. When I share about the podcast, it’s sharing about probably the top number of places where you can find me, where people are finding podcasts.

But then it goes into the root and the message of what this podcast is about. About messaging, about optics. That’s the focus, it’s not the stuff. And the same thing with the authors award winning New York Times bestseller. You know, I’m also blown away that podcasters will put out and put in their leads and even in their profiles inside of LinkedIn, how many downloads they’ve had of their podcast. Fictional people have downloads. People.

There are video game players that play a video game and it’s the major part of the screen. In the lower part, they’re there doing commentary and on Twitch and some of these other sites and they have millions of followers and millions. Your amount and your pop popularity number doesn’t necessarily showcase your authority. So to the podcast hosts, to the podcasters, consider putting a focus on what your show is about, why you talk this way, what you look for in a guest. Because right now, if you’re just getting that popular guest, why do they want to be a part of you?

Why do they want to connect with you? And yes, on the opposite side, there are guests that want to be on every single show possible. And that’s the second point. And flipping over to this is for the guests, but also at the same time for the podcasters, if somebody is out there on every single show and they’re not testing the waters to see what the authenticity of that show is, is that helping or hurting?

Effective podcast guest solicitation involves understanding your target audience.

    Podcast Guest Solicitation Transcription Continued:

Some people say, you know, all marketing is good marketing. But if your voice seems to be out there just spamming that you’re on this podcast and that podcast and the next podcast and this podcast, and really it’s just the same thing, how does that ignite your audience to pay attention? I don’t share for every podcast that I’m on. I don’t share for many of the podcasts that I’m on. I’ll go on to be a guest. When I’m asked to be a guest, I’m happy to be a guest if I see something authentic. If I think I can bring something to the conversation, it’s not ego, but it’s stating, okay, what’s going on. And then at the end of that show, was this something that would impact my present audience?

If not, it might be something I don’t share because they’ve already heard it before. Why should I force. And why should you force any of your audiences to pretty much hit the same cookie cutter stuff? If I go onto a particular show and they dive into the ghost drumming and then they dive into the transition of where I went from music into brand messaging and to what I’m doing now, and if it’s the same stuff and there’s not something new there, it doesn’t really entice me to share it with the audience. And it shouldn’t necessarily be an expectation.

If I’m being invited on and somebody wants to have a conversation about brand messaging, I’m there with them. Unless there’s flat out stating, and those are shows I’m not interested in. This is a cross promotion thing and I expect this and you do this and blah, blah, blah, but those aren’t really my thing. And when we can sit here and look at our shows and look at the guests that you may want to bring on and figure out what is a way to set a tone and a tempo to allow that guest to say, you know what, I really do want to share this out. This is a different interview, or is it the same old one?

The tone of your podcast guest solicitation can greatly affect a guest willingness to join.

I’m not for these little podcast flashcards. There’s a low hanging fruit product out there, a couple of them. Here are questions to ask on your podcast. And I see them because I get asked the same questions and they’re saying, hey, here’s our little unique time and we’re going to ask you about this. I’ve heard it before. So what draws interest and then at the same time does that exhaust the listener and they just move on? It is the authenticity in your show.

It’s the theme. It’s whether you’re going after a guest and saying, hey, I’m thinking about doing this. I’d love to interview you and talk about these things, maybe even asking in that question, in that email, in that solicitation, is there anything you want to go over? Is there something you’re tired of talking about?

Utilizing social media for authentic podcast guest solicitation can expand your reach significantly.

Is there something you feel like you haven’t had the chance to talk about? What a great approach to go to a guest to wake them up. When I receive emails like that, is there anything, not just what do you want to market, is there anything out there you’d love to discuss that lights me up in a positive way? It’s wow, this person cares. This person wants to have a discussion. This can be.

    Podcast Guest Solicitation Transcription Continued:

Again, it becomes conversations of engagement over just this forced and overly dominant. And then the marketing of some of these podcasts, the ones that come out on Monday, just out don’t forget to listen Wednesday. Oh, did you. In case you forgot, Monday, it was this pushing, pushing all week and that constant pressure and pushing until the following week and the next episode and the same thing comes up again.

If you would consider reading in between the lines of the rant, and it’s not an attack on anybody, but think about what traits, what characteristics, what tones that while the intention may be true to heart for you to have that authentic show, that perception wise, you might be knocking out and it might be turning people off and turning people away in thinking about that, in that humility, it can be a better show. And at the same time, on the other side of it, becoming that better guest, not sending some letter that is just. And this is the one that bothers me the most.

    Podcast Guest Solicitation Transcription Continued:

I would be a great guest on your show. Here’s all the stuff about me. Why don’t you share from a guest standpoint, why don’t you share why you would be a great guest for that show? Not in the ego of your own authority, but what you bring to a conversation. Sometimes I’ll leave an email back. I’d be a great fit for your show. All right. Why? What show did you like? When did you make that decision? So you read the byline, you read the taglines, the one liner, and you made that decision.

Did you listen to anything? I mean, there was a time when I was maybe not as nice and I said, oh, did you listen to the episode where this thing happened and we talked about this dog that did that? Because that, that, you know, that was really funny. Oh, yeah, well, I know you’re lying because that never happened.

So as that Guest and not just out there with this spam, self pushy promotion thing, but being able to take the time and say, you know what, scope out those shows, see where your reputation stands. It’s not just getting every single show that you can, but getting out to the places that might be best. And some of the places that might be best, they might not even have the largest listenership numbers or counts, but it becomes a great interview that in turn you may want to share to your audiences what we talked about before.

Maintaining authenticity in podcast guest solicitation can lead to more meaningful conversations as well as better guests for your show.

The idea of an interview that you weren’t expecting that allowed you to talk about things you don’t normally get to talk about. And then it’s something there that you’re streaming or embedding on your website to reach out and be able to get a sense of someone. I mean, when somebody asked me onto a show, I want to take a minute and say, all right, what’s this show about? What’s the vibe? What will we talk about?

    Podcast Guest Solicitation Transcription Continued:

To have just a little bit of time and not just feel like I’m sitting there, that they’re thinking, okay, well we’re going to grab his audience or we’re just going to fill time. I don’t want to fill someone’s time. You shouldn’t want to fill someone’s time. If you’re going for the authenticity, if you’re going for the authority, then make that podcast social, make it authentic, make it authoritative, make it true so that conversations can happen.

And inside of that content, it may connect people to your thinking and not just another infomercial. And I know like we said before, so you got a million podcasts out there and on that top level, a lot of them are just infinite infomercials.

I see these people coming on and they’ll spend more time selling what they have to sell. Their book, their course, their certification, their this, their boom, boom, boom. It’s all about them than really sitting there and sharing about their authority and authenticity. One of my lines, when people contact me or when I’ve contacted people, I’ll say I have nothing to sell. I have nothing to sell. If inside of a conversation, a real, true, organic, authentic conversation, someone is not from there led to find out more, then why should I be spending most of that time selling? And maybe it’s a conversation that I can learn from or get a question I wasn’t expecting.

When we take this other side of podcast to authenticity, we can grow our messaging, we can understand our yes, the intention. Get out there, get out there, get out there. But maybe it’s to get out there, to connect with the right people, to not necessarily be on the million subscription podcast, but maybe the guy that’s only got a hundred because it was a great conversation for him or her, it was a great conversation for you. And maybe you walked away with some content ideas that then you can create for your podcast or a video or a different way to communicate that you hadn’t communicated to your audience before.

This comes into a different level. It’s not just etiquette, it’s honor. It’s not, okay, we’re going to turn off all the other things and we’re going to close the other windows and we’re going to make sure this and that. There’s a lot inside of podcast etiquette. Make sure your answers are under three minutes. Wow, I saw this one article. Make sure your answers are under three minutes. If you’re on my podcast and you’re talking for three minutes straight, I’m not putting it up. It’s conversations.

    Podcast Guest Solicitation Transcription Continued:

It’s back and forth. Yes, there are some interview formats and that might be different, but when they put out this one set rule, and here’s how you’re supposed to be, does that really fit you? Does that really fit your story inside of this? To take it to that other level of almost tactical, of almost strategic, look at where you might want to go, look at where something could resonate. Look at other. Listen to other podcasts. Who was on. I had put a pitch out. It was a cold pitch to someone where they had a pretty big star on, and they talked about something that tied into messaging.

Consider the ethics involved in podcast guest solicitation to maintain your integrity.

And the email that I sent was, I saw this come through Facebook. I went in and listened to the episode about a week later. I loved what so and so said about this. I feel this, this, and this. And I believe this can be part of the conversation as well. Here’s my information. I’d love to be considered for a guest if you are continuing on this topic. And all the best, the call came a day later. It’s the same thing in how we reach out and make it much more personalized.

Take a second to listen to that podcast. If you don’t have a second, you need to take. You say, I need to take 20 seconds and I need to solicit 20 podcasts and boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. Well, good luck. Or do you take those extra couple minutes and really sift through and figure out where the best places are for you to be, for you to communicate, for you to represent yourself, your authority, your authenticity?

Podcast Guest Solicitation Transcription, truth is not flexible quotePodcast Guest Solicitation Transcription Continued:

Take a little bit more Time to honor your reputation and where you are and not just being the, that, that real estate, you know, crazy Salesman. I’m available 24 7. I don’t want a real estate agent that claims to be a family man or family woman that’s available 24 7, because then that means it’s just all everybody else. And it’s not about their family in the same way. It’s the same thing with podcasts. You might not want to be on every single one. And then getting to the point of payment, this is. You could, you could go into this for hours. There’s so many things.

We’re just going to keep it at the authenticity. We’re going to keep it. The personalization from the host to the guest to the guest to the host. But then this payment thing, I’ve been contacted and I, I reached out. No, no, I hadn’t been contacted. I contacted this one person and they said they talked about this authority and authenticity podcast. These are two words that mean a lot to me. Not just the words, but what’s behind them. And so we had this great conversation for about a half hour and the host was thrilled and it felt like a great conversation.

Then she began to explain what I had to pay her to be on her show. And I don’t pay to be on shows, and I don’t believe you should either. And then as I’m listening and I’m reading through her stuff and I’m checking her numbers, which. That was what she wanted paid against what she’s reaching. Absolutely not. For one, that arrogance was a turn off. Second off, when she’s stating there, I seek out these people and I make sure to find these people and these kind of people. People to share with you. Because this is what I’m doing authentically and transparently.

No, it’s not transparent. She has a system and a situation where she gets people to buy onto her show so she can make that kind of money so that she’s hitting to a smaller audience. And it’s the same problem with some of these speaking conferences. Not to go too far into another direction, but certain people that you see on stage, certain people that you see in these virtual rooms, in these virtual meetings, they paid to be viewed as experts.

And there are many that are not experts, that don’t have the authenticity, that don’t have the authority, and they’re in the room. There was a virtual group. I popped in there just to see what was going on and then popped out. I got an email from a woman. Can I get on the phone with you? Sure. We’d love you to be one of the speakers and one of the people leading inside of this room. Okay, here’s what we charge.

    Podcast Guest Solicitation Transcription Continued:

And that immediately became a turn off. So I have to market and that she would put people in there that have their marketing dollars to appear to be more than they are. So don’t pay to be on a podcast. Is it really that beneficial? And really, would you turn around and want to state, hey, I paid for this positioning. Is that something you want to share with those clients?

Reflections on past podcast guest solicitation experiences can guide future outreach efforts.

Oh, this is going to get me in front of this many people. Are you sure? Are that many people really tuned in? Is that conversion really happening? And could that money be used organically and authentically somewhere else? So I’m against the whole. I was against pay for play to a certain extent in music.

I’m definitely against pay to play or pay to guest on these podcasts. I’m going to circle around and wrap it up again. The core ideas here, this could be an episode that could go on for hours to go through step by step. But the thing is, when you begin to think with authenticity, when you think with the aspect of where the authority is and where it isn’t, the humility to be able to say, you know what, maybe I’m pushing something a little too hard. Maybe I’m not quite there yet. And maybe if I’m putting this out and somebody is doing their due diligence to check me out, they’re going to shut me down and close that contact for any time in the future.

I’m against some of those business coaches and gurus that say, make 20 calls a day and tell them this and tell them you’re going to do this and you’ll build up and then you’ll learn how to be able to do that, I wouldn’t want to trust somebody doing that to me. Would you want to trust somebody doing that to you?

And at the same time, if you’re trying to present yourself as more a door and they find out you’re not, a door can be shut. When you present yourself as you are, what you’re doing, how you’re growing even more, doors can be opened.

Look at it from the standpoint, whether it’s guest soliciting or host booking or both, how can you come off with the authority, true authority, transparent authority, what you are, where you are in that moment, not pretending, not embellishing, because the people that are not, the people that are going to be turned away by that, you might not necessarily want Them on your show and the people that are going to be attracted to that, they could be some of your best new conversations and best connections.

     Podcast Guest Solicitation Transcription Continued:

At the same time, think from the perception, not just the intention. You get the intention of your heart. The guest. I want to just get out here and for these people, I want to help. I want to help. I want to help. Are you able to help? And are you able to help? There’s certain shows, it’s just not going to make sense to go on. It’s certain shows that just. It’s not bothering. There’s a branding show and they call themselves brand. It’s a brand messaging strategy show. And the quote that I saw from this individual was, branding is about how you make other people feel.

No. Okay. Now going to the perception and going to one off, I think that’s a subjective statement and I believe it to be wrong. But where am I going to be a good guest for that person if I was to go on that show and contradict them? I had a guy, it was a music show. I was completely against morally, ethically, professionally, his approach.

And he was really, for whatever reason, upset that I wouldn’t come on. And I explained to him, I said, I disagree with you on these things and I’m open for debate. I love debates. But it was. I was everything I was about everything that this guy was not. It was the pure opposite. And it was strange because he said he read my book, he loved my book on music, and he follows my book, yet everything that he puts out is exactly the polar opposite.

So I said to him, I said, you don’t want me on the show. I’m going to be a terrible guest. I’m going to contradict you. I’m going to hit you with certain objective things. There’s a lot of proven fact I can show that goes against these facts that you’re claiming that aren’t true. So why have me on? He pushed, he went to insulting. It ended up. Fortunately, I had to block him. It was just. It was a weird conversation. And again, I don’t mind debate, but it wasn’t a good place for me to be. It wouldn’t have been a good place for him to have me. We can go to. And this becomes the last part. I’m sorry, before going to the last part, we can go to the perception.

Podcast Guest Info for Wait What Really OK

Remember that successful podcast guest solicitation is about creating connections.

    Podcast Guest Solicitation Transcription Continued:

We should go to the perception. How is this going to be read? Are we going to go on to a show where. And some of these shows are out there where they’re going to ridicule and mock. And maybe sometimes that can be fun, but other times it doesn’t work so well.

Understanding beyond the intention of what you’re trying to do or what you’re trying to say or why you’re trying to say it, understand the perception that it may be seen differently. And that goes to the booking, and that goes so heavily into the tactics for what you wrote and why you wanted to be on that show in that template that you created, or maybe you bought from one of these podcasting professionals, maybe a thousand other people sent that exact same letter and said that exact same thing.

So there becomes one of your differentiators. And lastly, one of the best tactics is differentiating the subjective from the objective to be able to go on and clarify when it’s a fact and when it’s an opinion. The subjective guest that can sit there and play it from the angle, or, I’m sorry, even better, perform it from the angle of this is what I see, this is why I see it, this is what I believe.

And then being very careful that if you’re going to state a fact, you have the ammunition to back that thing up as a fact, because there are so many podcasters out there, they lay claim, they make a claim, it could be an opinion, they shift it to fact, and it’s just going to end up being an argument. When you’re able to balance that and even while you’re on those shows, to be able to, okay, I see where you’re coming from.

This is what I understand, this is what I’ve learned. This is why I’ve come to this point. Not trying to win, not trying to win a conversation, but trying to create conversations is going to create more engagement, even if you. You’re debating. So in the end here, the tactics come down to the authentic, the authority in you, the subjective and the objective, and then the intention and the perception.

Think about it. Whether you’re reaching out to try to get on a show, whether you’re reaching out to try to get somebody else on your show, think that maybe they’ve had a hundred people that day send the exact same thing or say the exact same thing. So how do you state some. Something that is part of your story, your messaging, your differential? Do you have interview information sheets? I mean, this is again, for another show.

Do you have a podcast sheet or a page that can send them and not just say, oh, go listen to these. But maybe a nice sample, a nice sample thing that cuts in and cuts out. Can you invite these people? And at the same time, for the guest. Can you send them to different videos? Can you send them to different places? Quick snippets so they can get a sense of you quickly and then choose if they want to learn more or take more time with you. And that closes with the humility of it.

Lead with you, not the numbers. I have 20 million followers. I have a New York Times bestseller. I have all these things. Consider leading. I mean, you want to add that in and buffer that in somewhere, by all means do so, if that feels good. But lead with your authenticity. Lead with your humility. Lead with who you are, what you are, what your show is about, in this ability to reach out and connect and communicate.

Stop showing off and try sharing with other people to see where a new conversation could begin, a new show, a new level of engagement, a new audience, and doing it in an authentic, organic way than just trying to get out there and get your name out there and your website and your product on every page possible.

Taking that authentic approach showcases that much more authority and showcases that much more true engagement and opportunity than just being that overly dominant, overly pushy, overly selly and lacking in true authority and lacking in true authenticity. That shift in your voice, that shift in your tone, your temperature and your delivery with the consideration of all the other things that are being delivered to the people.

It will help you stand out. It will open doors, and it will open opportunities for more conversations, more interviews, more podcasts, more media as a whole. Think about that before you pitch to a guest. Think about that as a guest, before you pitch to a host, and think about that before any conversation inside the authenticity, the authority, the subjective, the objective, the intention, the perception. And then join a conversation as opposed to trying to get someone to give you a conversation that you just take over. Wait What Really OK.

Music: Wait What Really Ok. With your host, Loren Weisman. This is a fully licensed theme song for the show about stuff that makes you say, Wait What Really Ok.

Loren: This is Loren Weisman, and for today’s episode, this is, in a sense, our artificial intelligence statement. This goes for me, this goes for Fish Stewarding Group, FSG Development, FSG Messaging and Optics, and all the FSG Living branches and everything else that’s tied to us. And I’m hoping at the same time that this may start a trend and that others will create an artificial intelligence statement as well. The concept of this is transparency in using AI.

Now, there’s some aspects of artificial intelligence that I’m very all about. I’m very pro toward it. The idea of how certain things can function to simplify work where the authority, the authenticity, the experience, the knowledge, it’s being used and formatted and formulated into a program to make life easier based on the foundation, a sound foundation of the ability of that individual, that person or that product. I like that.

Where I have a problem with AI is with some of these models coming through Chat GPT and some of the chat bots. And the way that you pop in a. You pop in basically a less than a paragraph, it can be a sentence, a. And all of a sudden content’s created for you. You can pop in information into some of these and a book can be created for you, a video can be created for you. Information can be scraped, put together, not necessarily referenced. And all of a sudden it’s creating content that came from other sources and AI pulled them together and created.

How My Daughter Changed My Approach Podcast Transcription

Artificial Intelligence Statement TranscriptionArtificial Intelligence Statement Transcription Continued:

And the problem with that creation is it’s a mixture of plagiarism and at the same time, not yours. It’s taken off a great deal and it’s a concern. So one off to the individuals that are looking at someone, they’re looking at a product, they’re looking at a person, they’re looking at a service they may want to work with.

Look a little more carefully to the content that they provide you. Is it coming from them or does it just seem like it’s some kind of marketing process that’s run through an AI system? And for the individual that’s trying to reach out, if you choose to use this, it’s out there and a lot of people are using it.

Be honest about might be a good step as we move forward right now. Be honest and stand your ground. Now, some may not, some may choose not to. I know many are not currently. I think that’s where it comes in with this idea of an Artificial intelligence statement and here’s the AI statement from FSG and me. We will not, we have not and we are not creating any kind of content using artificial intelligence.

We research information and we may use aspects of AI research to find different stories, different articles, but also at the same time who wrote them, when they were written, where they came from, all of that. And from that, that content is created from us. We are the root of our content, we are the root of our message, we are the root of our marketing, we are the root of our narrative and our story. We have not, are not and will not use artificial intelligence or AI to try to create something like that.

Artificial Intelligence Statement Transcription, loren weisman quoteArtificial Intelligence Statement Transcription Continued:

Now again, I’m not against artificial intelligence, but when it is used in a responsible way, when it is used in an accountable way, when it is used in a transparent way, I believe it can be an amazing tool for those that have the authenticity, for those that have the morals, the authority and the experience, they can bring pieces together. So it allows them to create and do things possibly a little bit easier.

However, it’s also dangerous in the wrong hands. You take that individual that has no experience, but they want to appear as that. And that’s been a major problem to me and to many others on social media, on websites, just crazy claims pushing, you know, subjective opinions forced into this, objective statements, no consideration of liability. And it’s been developing it. It’s not just popping out with chat, GPT or the new thing that’s coming out with Microsoft or the Google thing.

This is not all of a sudden overnight. This has been for a while. I spoke on a book program that uses AI to basically knock out a book for you and all you have to do is go in, you change a couple chap titles. You had a little thing here, you can have a front to cover book that you claim as your own in under an hour. That’s a little scary. At the same time, one of the things I’m concerned about when it comes to artificial intelligence and some of these free places where you can use it, are you adding in ideas and at the same time, can those ideas be used by somebody else?

Do you become something that is derived in AI for somebody else’s search? Anyways, the key concept here, and I’m keeping this one short, the fsg, the Loren Weisman, the FSG Messaging and optics, Fish stewarding, the development group, all of our living branches, everything we create is from us. It’s from our authenticity, our authority, our our knowledge and the wisdom that we’ve accrued over time. We may Use. You know, for instance, we, we do use AI with the podcast. I run this through Auphonic. It’s an AI system that will crunch some of the highs and some of the lows.

However, with that kind of artificial intelligence, that does nothing to the message. So from my sniffles in the middle of allergy season to sentences that don’t quite end right, that’s all me, that’s all real, that’s all true. I’m using AI in what I believe is a positive way to do a fast mix on this podcast to get it out and have the levels correct. However, everything inside of it, it is authentically and organically me. And that’s my ask.

Consider putting out that AI statement if you work the same way that we do. State that this is us, these are our ideas, this is how we research, this is how we share, this is how we create. And that might just make the impact with the people that engage you, because I think that there are going to be a lot of people out there that would be afraid to make that kind of statement because they want the quickest latest social thing. They’re not worried about constructing a solid tweet.

They’re worried about getting 25 tweets out in, you know, in a given span of time. And that’s unfortunate. And you know, with Chat GPT and many of these other AI things, it makes it that much easier because you can pop in, create, and that’s, that’s been a system that’s been around for a while.

Artificial Intelligence Statement Transcription Continued: Create some good tweets for me. In the end, I ask you to consider, stand in authority, authenticity and transparency when it comes to your content, when it comes to your message, when it comes to your marketing. And if you do consider adding that statement, consider adding that artificial intelligence statement, stating this is what you use artificial intelligence for and this is what you don’t use it for.

It might just make an impact with some of those that you’re engaging, some of those that you’re connecting with, some of those that you may work with. Hope you like this one. This was kind of a one shot, one take. I’m sure you can tell there’s no AI used to it. Script or fix this one. And I’ll close with saying it’s okay to sniffle, it’s okay to mess up, it’s okay to be real. And now, even with more of this artificial intelligence making things just so perfect, isn’t it nice at times to not have to worry about perfection?

This is Loren Weisman. This is. Wait, what really okay, this is our artificial intelligence statement. And if you show share the same views when it comes to artificial intelligence, where you’re using some of the systems but the core content is true and you perhaps you might want to share one of those online on your website or on your social media too. Have a good one.Artificial Intelligence Transcription, wait what really ok, loren weisman

Song: Wait What Really Ok. With your host, Loren Weisman. This is a fully licensed theme song for the show about stuff that makes you say, Wait What Really Ok.

Loren: Where is the vetting gone? Where’s the accountability and responsibility of the individual to look into seeing if a source is real or not? It seems we’ve come into a time of a serious lack of accountability and almost becoming sheep in many cases. So I’ve listened to people say, oh, I got, I got screwed over here, I got taken advantage of here. Did you or did you allow it to happen?

Did you not take the time to look at who you were potentially working with, what you were potentially doing, what you were potentially putting money into? It seems this dumbed down generation to accept a headline is oftentimes the first person to jump back and say, look at how I got abused, look at how I got taken, look at how I got screwed. And yet really, when you look at the accountability, to me at least these people allowed themselves to get screwed. They didn’t dig in deeper. They saw what they needed to see.

And this goes beyond politics and it goes beyond the business scams, it goes beyond the online stuff. I mean, you dated back however many years to the Nigerian princes reaching out to poor old ladies saying, you know, leaving this amount of money, or the scams that have come through the emails or the scams that are online every day, here’s how fast you can make money, here’s where you can be sent this, here’s how, oh, you’re going to get all this and this and oh, and we’re legit.

And here are the sources you can look at. A number of years back when I was more involved in doing some messaging strategy for some CBD companies, we were amazed that when we dug deeper that these third party testers and these reviewers and these third party labs, a great majority of them were owned by the product company.

vetting transcription, nourish your audience, Messaging and Optics Strategist Transcription, loren weismanVetting Transcription Continued:

They were just named something different. However, they didn’t cover their tracks as well. I guess they weren’t looking for someone to dig that deep that you could back trail them to see their filings and see that the filing with a given state or city or whatnot tied them both together. We’ve come into a time and we’ve been here for a while, but I believe it’s more important than ever to look into the people, look into the businesses, look into the products.

We have a problem with the Amazon reviews and half of those reviews. It’s not even an intentionally bad thing. Somebody gets a product and they open up that product and they See right on that product box, little letter saying how would you like $5, $10, this kind of discount for anything else. Just put in a review for us, put in a five star review and we’ll get this right back to you.

I think there should be a review app out there. And inside of this app it states when the review, how long after the individual had the product that they performed the review.

So you bought this item and after 90 days, I believe that review can be a lot more authentic and true than somebody reviewing it in 90 minutes looking to get an Amazon gift card so they can keep buying more. In this time that we’re in, if you’re not going to look that much deeper, I feel you’re going to see that many more problems.

It’s the same thing with the individuals. There are courses on courses, they’re all over LinkedIn, all over Google, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, anywhere. Here’s how to kind of summarize, appear as a professional, X, Y or Z.

It’s strange that it doesn’t put any kind of focus in. Here’s the education element to become that professional. It’s more of here’s how to come off as. Here’s how to appear these little leadership things that just to me, I want to report every single one of them and maybe there are a few out there that are genuine.

But so many of these leaders say this here’s how you get around and know here’s how you get around this so you can bring out some of the worst products, the worst services. But these people are using, you know, anything from the NLP to psychological tactics to yell tell and sell their way through the door.

vetting transcription, Just because you have not been questioned, loren weisman, quote

    Vetting Transcription Continued

No, you’ve got this. And there’s a lack of accountability there. I have a problem with the lack of liability in what can be said online. I’d love to see the tides turn and they’re turning a little bit. Not as, not as much as I’d like to see but where if somebody was stating these outrageous claims to make that sale that if it isn’t true, they’re held liable for that. And that’s another thought to think about.

Whether you’re looking at someone or looking at a product, what are they stating and could you come back to them and say okay, great, can you put this in writing in the receipt in the invoice that this is exactly how it will be and if there are any problems whatsoever, I get my money back or this much of a refund.

Not many of them if I, not that I know of Any of them would do that because they’re pulling off what they can pull off. They’re using the greatest jargon, they’re using an anonymous element. In many cases. You see these people where it’s business after business.

There are a number of these business strategist groups, these motivational wellness, these life coaches, where they specifically state create these sites in format so that if something goes wrong, vagueness and something goes wrong, you can shut it down and begin anew. Be a little bit, I don’t know, I don’t want to say worried, but be a little bit more aware.

Somebody all of a sudden is throwing out all this stuff but their full name isn’t there and that it doesn’t tie their name, their self, their images don’t tie to the business because to me that that’s a big red flag and going, okay, so you’re popping up, whatever you can pop up and once this or if this comes under fire, you can jump away and do something else.

I like this site, it’s called Wayback Machine. And I find it really fun to run through every so often and I invite you to look it up again. It’s called Wayback Machine. And you can see in Wayback Machine it will grab screenshots through the years of a given domain.

So if somebody’s been, you know, flipping from project to project, job to job, MLM to mlm, scam to scam, where they thought they erased all that stuff, there’s a little footprint, there’s a little thing of seeing what that is and going way back and seeing how far do they go back with what they talk about, with what they do, with any kind of validity?vetting transcription, Assuming without asking, claiming without proving, loren weisman quote

Vetting Transcription Continued Or do you see the growth of authority or not? Is it an 18 year old using the AI for voiceover things and these elements trying to sell as if there’s something different, Keep an eye out, keep an ear out, consider looking a little bit deeper. It’s amazing what people will come to accept and other things that they will just fight to the end on.

You see somebody in a Starbucks lose their mind because somebody messed up their extra shot of a pumpkin spice latte. Yet when CNN or FOX News puts out some kind of headline, they’ll be the first person to scream it to the world as if they knew it, as if they’re an expert not knowing where that comes from.

There’s an individual I spoke to the other day said, well, this particular network has Doctors, they have PhDs that know stuff. Does it mean that they know what they’re talking about in that given area, does it mean that they have all the information to go off of? We’ve come to a very frightening time and today is election day. Many things, oh, it’s that he’s a liar, she’s a liar, they’re both liars.

There’s lots of lies going out on there because inside of campaigns there isn’t that liability there either. You can say what you want to say. There’s certain, I mean, there’s certain boundaries, but they’re very thin and very easy to cross. You want to talk about, you know, that honesty and that integrity. If it’s not required, if it’s not going to be pushed through to be required, then what requires anyone to do it?

How My Daughter Changed My Approach Podcast Transcription

Have a deeper look before you commit to an individual, before you commit to the greatest system. Here’s the top five things you need to do before you commit to buying the book from someone where they might have had it just pitched as an AI written sales thing to get you to believe whatever in 90 pages of double spaced words with other people’s quotes, other people’s authorities and other people’s idea trying to sell what they have. If you’re buying that, that’s on you.

Look deeper, dig deeper. Get back to the sense of vetting. Look for the accountability, the authority, look for the transparency. And if you don’t see it, maybe it’s time to look somewhere else. If you’re hearing everything you want to hear, maybe that’s a bad thing. In the end, a lot of people that I’ve talked to, people that have been my clients, FSG clients, they don’t like the initial phases, they don’t oftentimes like to hear because they’re not going to get buttered up.

This is a problem, this needs to get fixed. Well, this person told me that. Go with that person. I will not work with anyone. FSG will not work with anyone that doesn’t have their grounding, that doesn’t have a foundation in moral ethics, honor and transparency and at the same time quality. And if that’s not there and they’re looking for messaging or financing or marketing to move around that, then it just won’t work. It’s one of the things that FSG has out there and that I do independently.

If I can’t see the authority in you, I can’t work with you because I’m not going to create a false authority with you or for you. And if you don’t necessarily have that authority yet, then maybe it’s not the time to write a book. Maybe it’s not the time to put out some kind of podcast.

Maybe it’s not the time to create something that is untrue, to try to make it appear true to audiences around. Would you say these exact same things or take this exact same path with the closest family member, with a son, a daughter, a mother, a father, a best friend, someone in dire straits, looking for a way to.

vetting transcription, Sharing the same exact content, message or advertisements over and over again.Vetting Transcription Continued

Maybe your product is something to get them to that next level. Would you do that to them? If you wouldn’t, then why would you do that to the rest of the public? Take heart. If you have it, take faith and stand on a foundation of truth and authenticity.

And not just as a buzzword, in that you might not achieve the traffic, the views, the likes and the comments, but instead you might achieve the best connections to the correct conversions, to people you can genuinely help and people that are worth helping. I hope you’ll vet a little bit more.

I hope you’ll practice a little bit more due diligence. I hope that the things that you see and hear, that you won’t assume them to be objective, substantiated truths until you have the time yourself to substantiate them and see if they truly are. I hope you have a great day, a great evening. This country is not going to explode tonight, regardless of who wins. And this was Loren Weisman.

This is Wait What Really Ok, this is one take with no AI enhancement and no script. And the little stops and the pauses and the coughs, those are all organic, they’re authentic, and they’re me. And I’m not going to hide that. And I invite you not to do the same. Keep it true in your content. Keep it true in your words, in your works, and in your vetting. Have a good one. vetting transcription, loren weisman, wait what really ok

Messaging and Optics Strategist Transcription Chapters

Song: Wait What Really OK with your host Loren Weisman. This is a fully licensed theme song for the show about stuff that makes you say Wait What Really OK.

Loren: What is a messaging and optics strategist? Many people may have many different definitions, so I’m not saying this is the end all, be all one, but this is how I define it for what I am as a messaging and optics strategist and for what I do for the fish Stewarding group. Many people come under the mindset that they’re supposed to write a bio. Some say you need to have that tagline.

Messaging and Optics Strategist Transcription, glow in the dark golfMessaging and Optics Strategist Transcription Continued: Others will state it’s how you send out this marketing message. Some will talk about the whispering approach, some will talk about the arrogant approach, the overconfident approach, the assertive approach, dominant approach, submissive approach. Inside of your words, there’s a lot going on there.

So inside of your messaging it’s your choice. But also as you choose, realize messaging is a wide array. There’s so many options of what you can be and it ranges from the spammiest, most inauthentic, trash talking, hyperbole artists to the people that sit in a level of humility and authority that present what they feel best represents them to showcase an organic and authentic authority.

What I’ve seen inside of messaging that crosses over to marketing and my belief is message before marketing, the messaging foundation allows you to plant the seeds to build a solid, stable and secure foundation which all of your messaging grows off of, which all of your marketing grows off of, which all of your content grows off of. And then inside of that harmony, there’s a consistency. Yes, you may talk about an array of different things, however, staying true to you and for that matter, if you’re choosing this route, staying true to the truth.

Not a truth, not my truth, not your truth. The truth can serve you well. Many have avoided messaging for a very long time. They tuck it under the definition of marketing. And inside of many marketing campaigns you end up seeing oftentimes just an array of we’re going to try this and then we’re going to say this. Okay, that didn’t work. Now we’re going to change this.

People shifting the bio, shifting the content. They’re constantly flipping it around. Now there is an element of testing the waters and making adjustments and edits, but there’s also an element and it’s one to look out for people that are constantly trying to rewrite the script to achieve the popularity or for that matter, the profit. And regardless of where their skill set, ability or authority lies, they’re just writing that script to make the buck.

There are others that can speak with authority, can speak with authenticity, but the problem is they get linearized. They know what they’re saying. Maybe they have the background, the experience, the education. Yet inside of that, their marketing choice is to share exactly what they know, the way they know it. These are not good messaging and optics strategist types to listen to. Now, the problem arises is, are there dozens of other people sharing that same message that don’t know that, or is it too many people making that claim so that there’s a negative connotation with it? So this one individual maybe is truly, organically, authoritatively sharing something and something that can help people.

However, because he chose that messaging and didn’t pay attention to all the other messages, all the other marketing going around, all the other aspects of popularity, it ends up hurting him. So inside of messaging, or what I find to be correct, authentic and humble messaging is not just to sit here and write the bio that you like. Create a little think tank of, you know, wouldn’t it be funny to do this? Let’s copy this, let’s steal that, let’s do this. And we’re off. Many of these marketing companies are happy to do that. They’re happy to make your ideas pretty and sound great and look great.

However, inside of those ideas, are they solid? Is the optic out there looking good for you? Or does it look like too many other things? Are the considerations of compliance in place? Many are out there stating the life coach, the business coach that’s just screaming out, you have to say you know what you’re doing. I don’t want you to say you know what you’re doing. And many people are tired of it, as well as the algorithms online. If you know what you’re doing, share that knowledge. Share it from a place of wisdom, Share it from a place of examples.

Don’t make the promise to get them into a funnel. Enough people are doing that. Take people into a place so that they can understand, so that they can find out more about you, so that your online presence, from your website to socials to PR press releases and whatnot, is not one long stream of a marketing ad, but more so that people can see the seeds that you planted. They can read the quotes, they can watch short videos.

Maybe you have a podcast, maybe you have a book. And in that, please don’t write a book if you don’t have a book in you. Not everyone does have a book in them. I don’t even list that I’m an author anymore. I’m proud of my three books. I don’t want to Take away from that. However, right now this whole you can be an author overnight, it’s kind of taken its turn and now everybody’s a best selling authority. It’s amazing that we have so many different categories and so many bestsellers and the whole thing is gain authority by writing a book.

Authentic messaging strategies for transitioning businesses

Messaging and Optics Strategist Transcription Continued:

Shouldn’t you have authority to share inside of a book so that you’re sharing it and maybe you’re gaining people and people are coming together and they’re learning from it as opposed to just the low hanging fruit Marketing hype When messaging is correctly found and sound and set in place, it considers the elements of the subjective to the objective. And this is just as inviting to the ears of an individual as it is to the algorithms and the penalizations that are happening online.

Take medical, take legal, take business. When you’re stating you have the answer, you’ve now made a claim. When you shift it and organize your messaging strategy to include we believe this could be an answer for some because now you’ve shared an opinion Messaging and optics in one way to simplify it and bring it down to its most raw foundation is the wording is the base. Messaging is the description of your company, your product, your services, the elements coming out. Something that could stand in a court of law because in some ways that’s what the algorithms are doing, that’s what people are doing.

Can you back it up? And even with the greatest idea, even with the greatest authority to take the humility and say, I’m going to watch what other people are going to say or have said. I’m going to look at how they’re presenting. I’m going to consider not going flashy and wow and amazing and sit there and show people, lead people through your experience, your education, your knowledge, your examples, the FAQs. And that’s a big thing right now.

Having those FAQs is great and it’s great for SEO big time. And on that, by looking at the SEO and not necessarily just putting up something on Instagram or TikTok and if you’re on it, please get off it. Security big issue. Talked about that in another podcast, Messaging and optics strategist transcription text even more so. Great interviews that tie into the areas you just don’t want to be touching with that but not going to TikTok many are looking at and many of the influencers to the marketing organizations, they’re saying throw something out to get it. As many views and as many likes and as many follows. And yet many have spent tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars for a false

Popularity that does not necessarily convert to positive profit. So why not have that video that goes out that maybe, you know, it doesn’t hit the mark with 10,000 views overnight, but maybe with 10 views it’s now optimized. And when people begin to look up those terms, they show up first. When people are searching, part of the messaging and the optic to share in a time when it seems there are more fools and liars then truth telling authorities and authentic people is to plant those seeds is to share not just the end all, be all and where you want to send them, but small plant small seeds of authority, of authenticity, of ability. This is why I do this as a messaging and optics strategist a lot.

And oftentimes in the this is why I do this. And being able to track where you came from that can help with your authority over the people that are jumping from business project to a, you know, multi level marketing thing to the latest and greatest, to solar, to whatever else, water purification, solar energy. Yes, some of this stuff is really good.

However, at the same time look at that individual that you are connected with, maybe on Facebook or LinkedIn or Twitter. Isn’t it amazing? And I believe everybody knows one or two or more of them how hyped up they are for something and then a year or two years later they’re immediately onto something else. It’s insane the way that people will chase after hype up something and then find out there’s no substance to it, there’s no authority to it. So then they go and hype up the next thing and people are looking at that, they’re looking backwards. How much are you involved in?

That’s why I like, I mean I like certain doctors that have the track record from their education to what they’ve done, many of them have worked their way through and they showcase a line of fire that is direct and clear. That from doing this, from learning this, from experiences, from working here now I’m creating X. It’s the same thing with many business people. It’s not the I worked in one place. You look at the, you know, these 22 year old types that are just sharing this is what you need to do for everybody. This is, this is the answer for everyone?

One off, that’s a claim. Second off, it’s a lie. And that’s a thing to stay away from inside of your messaging, inside of your optics because you don’t know what that particular person’s budget is, who they know, what they’ve done, where their level of popularity exists.

Many of these stories and I came from Music and television, we created false stories, a false hype, a sense to allow a seeming promise that wasn’t really a promise at all. And people fell for it hook, line and sinker. I prefer what I do now. It’s organic, it’s honest, it’s a little bit more humble. And I can sleep better at night now than I ever did back in the late days of music and when I was in tv. Point being, inside of your messaging, your messaging is the foundation.

Maybe you had someone write a beautiful bio and it’s Shakespearean or it’s modern English or it’s this or it’s that. But is it filled with a whole bunch of claim phrases? Is it filled with oversaturated phrases? Is it filled with negative connotations? And any of these marketing groups, they can come back and say, oh, we got great tests on this. This is just great across the board.

Who did you test? It’s the same thing with any kind of claim these days. You can go and find a billion different people saying a billion different things, giving you the results that you want. That’s where the optics come in. It’s the optics of not just looking at the reviews or the views or the testimonials of this is what somebody’s seeing and this is how they’re seeing.

Might look a little bit different when you go at it, honestly, when you mix up the age ranges, when you look at different classes, when you begin to really search out what the sound, the tone and the temperature of your messaging is over. Just sending it off to someone where oftentimes they’re going to just find someone that says, hey, they love it.

You may have to shift, you may have to pivot, you may have to adjust, you may be so sure. And I spoke with one guy, it was a couple years back. He was doing something that had never been done before. It was an absolute objective truth. He was presenting ideas in a series of different ways that have just never seen the light of day. Again, an absolute objective truth. What he had brought together was years and years of study to prove this. All sorts of different vetting styles, all sorts of different studies, all sorts of different sort of failure attacks.

Again, absolutely true. His product failed and went nowhere because of his ego. His ego allowed him to say, I can make all these statements because they’re true and this will show people. But unfortunately, his product was along the lines and his messaging and the optics of it were along the lines of many other people that weren’t true. And he was banging his head going, but Mine is real. And that was the day, you know, that was the day when I said, look, just, I can’t help you. FSG can’t help you. We understand you are correct. We understand it is true what you’re saying.

But for your unwillingness to bend, to consider the optics of what are out there, the temperature of how people are receiving and the humility to say, okay, I’m going to lightly adjust a sentence and realize it’s not just semantics, semantics, I can’t even speak that it can make all the difference in a world, in the world. And that in turn, people will find that to be more true. People can find it not to have a claim. People cannot go in with that taste in their mouth from somewhere else.

Now, it’s not perfect across the board, but when you consider the tone, the tempo, the temperature, the subjectivity to the objectivity, when you look at the comparative and the competitive of others out there, when you look at the past, when you look at the future of different people that are putting out things, what are some words just not really something you want to touch on right now? What are some other words that are coming back?

Where are you sitting? Honestly, organically, with authority and educating. And in that, when you add in, then the compliance, when you consider liability, when you begin to roadmap, what will go to your marketing people and drive them to say, we’ll do this video here, we’ll do these quotes here, we’ll do this blog here, we’ll do this kind of podcast there. Then it all compounds to grow.Messaging and Optics Strategist Transcription, consider standing in honor and transparency

Built on a rock and not on the sand. Many of these marketing agencies, they want to just throw darts at the wall and create the latest, hippest thing. And this will be really relatable, and this will be this or this will be that. It hits, Sometimes it hits, sometimes it sinks. Some things that hit really hard, they sink later. They are filled with PR and hype types but have no messaging and optics strategists on board. So why not begin? And this isn’t a sales pitch for me, it’s for whatever you’re doing and whoever you’re doing it with. Why not begin by building the foundation?

A sound, a solid, a secure and a stable foundation of your messaging, with the awareness of the optics that are out there, with the ability to set a blueprint. So for whatever you say, what you share, what you create, how you advertise, how you interact online and off is coming from a place that best defines you, that best allows you to shine and at the same time keeps you away from the claim statements and allows people to make the decisions for themselves that they’re seeing, hearing hey, even smelling something that seems just a little bit different, that seems like something they may want to look into a little bit more. Take the time with your messaging look to see that whoever you’re working with has that sense. Its not just working with a messaging and optics strategist, its you becoming a messaging and optics strategist too.

They’re not just putting together the, you know, flavor of the month, the flavor of the week, the flavor of the day, that they’re setting up something that can grow for you, that can compound for you so that every aspect and every element, from a bio to a tagline, to the name of your company, to the content created, to the way that you advertise, to the way that you go to the news, to the way that you can increase in interviews, that it’s true, sound, authentic and authoritative. Again, messaging to me comes before marketing.

There are marketing companies with out messaging and optics strategists that are out there that take the time to work with you to create the messaging. However, many of them, they’re going to make more of their money by putting up ads behind the content that they create and they’re going to show you flashy things and they’re going to get you likes and they’re going to get you comments, but in the end, they might not get you that many customers.

So lastly, and I’ll close it out here. Pause, stop. Consider those ideas we talked about, the subjective to the objective. Negative connotations, positive comparisons, those that are competing people, what they can compare it to. And an array of different people, array of different businesses digging a little bit deeper than just what you look at and what you go Google search on your own computer. In a way, be your own messaging and optics strategist.

Take it that step a little further. And in securing the optic, in securing the messaging, it just might in the end do the most good for your business, for your brand, for reaching out to media, for reaching out to new customers, new investors, new connections.

Take the time, look at the messaging, look at the optics, and if you are working with a messaging and optics strategist, make sure they are true to form and the real deal… get it sound, get that foundation there, get that blueprint in place and go.

Song: Wait What Really OK. Ok With your host, Loren Weisman. This is a fully licensed theme song for the show about stuff that makes you say, Wait What Really OK.

Loren: Sharing opinions instead of trying to state facts may help your business, your messaging, your marketing, your reach, your advertising, both from an engaging standpoint, from a psychological standpoint, and even from the algorithm and the compliance standpoint. My name is Loren Weisman. This is the Wait What Really OK Brand messaging podcast. It’s been a little bit of a burp in between episodes. I would call this season nine, episode two, number 135.

The last one was in July. So other things have been going on. That’s where I go with this kind of thing and that’s my opinion. I don’t think that you need to podcast every single day. I don’t think that you need to post on Twitter 20 times a day. I don’t think that you need to overly pressure if you don’t have anything to say. However, I state that and lead with that by saying I think and I share reasons why I feel that way. I don’t try to yell, sell or tell people a method that might not work for everyone because there’s some people that podcast every single day and they do incredibly well at it. However, when you follow certain molds or models with certain pieces missing, it might not work the same for you.

What Joe Rogan has been able to do with his podcast is not a model to follow. It may be something to aspire to. He may be an inspiration. But all the pieces and all the fame and the immense knowledge and the guests that he has and the reach that he has is a lot different than someone perhaps 19 years old starting out with zip. It’s not saying that what he did and how he did it was wrong. It might just not be realistically or strategically relatable. We’ve come into a time and this part I state objectively and I’m very careful to differentiate the facts from the opinions because we are in a time right now where it’s very challenging for many people.

They will take an opinion and move it into a fact. And that doesn’t help anyone. But we have come into a time where the push of the headline, where the opinion, if it was just stated like, you know, an op ed, an opinion editorial, I would love to see that come back. I think the news would benefit from that. To be able to state, here’s an opinion and why, so that people can’t just come blasting. And this, this is where it ties to your business or your product or your service. What you believe, it’s what you believe. When you preface it with an opinion and why you believe it.

You open up the doors for conversation. You open up the doors for engagement. There are many of the top level business coaches that force this idea of you have to pound confidence. To me it sounds like arrogance and oftentimes inside of that arrogance, it’s a pressure that because they have to use these tones and because they have to push things they’re unsure of, it doesn’t really show showcase a foundation of authority. I can tell you things about messaging, but it’s not my place to tell you what to do with your messaging. I can showcase examples of what Fish Stewarding group does and the elements of how we approach things.

It still might not work for you, and that’s fine. But in humility, in authenticity, and in honor to be able to state, here’s what I feel, here’s what I think, here’s what I think might help you, that is a lot more true and gifting and foundational and engaging than saying, you’ve got it all wrong. You’re doing it wrong. You need to do this. I have no right to tell you that and you have no right to come and tell me. We have a lot of information that gets shifted from an opinion or gets shifted from unsubstantiated facts, and then it’s pushed into the fact thing.

We see that everywhere. That’s nothing new. Podcasters, vloggers, bloggers, influencers, they’re using an arrogant, overly dominant tone to push something. And if it was that true and if it was that authentic and if it was that good, couldn’t they move to sharing a little bit more about an opinion?

Why does it need to be the best? I don’t agree with, and I came from the music business, I don’t agree with the best rock drummer or the best album or the best song. Because music is all subjective. It’s art. It’s the same thing with food. We have a local magazine around here and the way that they review certain area stuff. And again, I don’t like how they present because they make it like they’re covering the area. No, it’s an advertising magazine.

If you advertise with them, if you pay them, they will present how great you are. But the front of their message is all about, no, this is the area. So where does that work? Well, now, inside of all these issues, it’s not that we’re going to solve this, it’s not that it’s all going to come together.

However, we can become a little bit more aware. And if we become aware, if you choose to be aware, you might end up making better decisions both in the people that you engage, the people that you purchase from, the people that you work from, as well as those that work with you. So coming back to the title, sharing opinions instead of facts. Well, what if I know this to be an absolute, you know, just completely objectively true? Okay, go with it.

    Sharing Opinions Instead Transcription Continued:

    Sharing Opinions Instead Transcription Continued:

However, because so many people have stated opinions as facts and so many people have experienced that wasn’t true, or this isn’t true, or that doesn’t seem right, to respectfully understand the perceptions you may be able to break through when you go to that humility and phrase something that may be factual even as an opinion. The other side of that too is from a compliance standpoint, from a liability standpoint, from things that you put out on the web, from things that you put up on YouTube, from things that you put into podcasts. Many of these algorithms are looking for issues that could get certain sites or certain people sued.

You want to get onto some of these news networks, you want to become one of those media people, that’s fine. However, trying to come out and becoming the expert, it’s a challenge today because everybody’s a so called expert coming out with your opinion, where you built that opinion from and off of how you see things, how you can be subjective, how you can handle someone countering that opinion is a beautiful thing and very newsworthy and very media worthy to come into a voice. And look at this. I mean, you could say this from a Facebook standpoint. People say they blocked this post. They did this to me. They did that to me. Yes, they did, because they have every right to, because it’s in their terms and conditions. They can do that. You’re not, or most of the people I’m talking to, you have no stake or control of these social media platforms or online platforms. And so the firing back of saying this isn’t fair kind of comes off to some whiny.

Now, if you want to continue to amplify your view, your opinions, then play by the rules to get your voice through. So, for example, some of the flagging and the tagging, the penalization, I’m not being seen. No, you’re not. Because you chose certain words, you chose certain phrases, you chose to use caps, you chose to do things that are getting penalized. I have to spend so much more money to be seen. Okay, maybe, but maybe it’s also spending a little less money and following some of the measures to get your voice across, it’s not numbing you, it’s not nulling you. I saw some influencer that sent this thing and it was one of those gym, they were in the gym and it was, you know, beautiful women in spandex and big guys with big weights. And they’re like, if they’re not hearing you for who you are, you don’t need them. Okay, again, I’m not judging that. That’s one way to go, but that’s a very challenging way to go. It means you’re going to have to do a lot to get through to that audience.

Now you flip it around and state, okay, what are the compliant messaging measures? Where am I standing? Where I could be viewed as a claim. And that’s something to move away from. We are the best X product in the world. That is a claim that can easily be refuted because somebody else can have an opinion that something else is the best.

Now at the same time you got the psychology behind it of people just tired of hearing of the best and the best things that they got, they weren’t so much the best. And now you’re in the vicious circle switching it around to sharing. If you’re looking for this, you may like this. Here is what this may do for you. CBD is another area that’s getting in so much trouble with this. Their CBD and THC and cannabis part of the slow up.

They continue to blame the government, they continue to blame social media. They continue to blame, blame, blame as opposed to taking the accountability to putting out the messaging around how CBD and THC can work. They this industry as a whole, not everyone in their overly objective statements and claims, they’ve kept this thing from being legalized. Now move from the CBD is the answer to everything.

And CBD can cause can fix your arthritis and your depression and this and that. And everybody needs cbd. That’s not true. We all do have an endocannabinoid system in us. It reacts differently with different people and different levels of CBD affect us differently. Somebody could take CBD that has arthritis and because of their physical makeup and because of what they experience, their life, their diet, their health conditions prior where they live, their fitness level, all of that. Yes, it could completely solve arthritis. It’s been proven in examples as an objective fact.

However, three more people could be in the same scenario and try it with arthritis. Maybe they have different parameters with their bodies and it has no effect whatsoever. And even other people, they can have a Bad effect. It can give them headaches. This is the same thing for every element of business, for every product that’s out there we have as a culture. And not saying this is everybody, but many. And many in the business market. I’m sorry. I personally find it appalling, the excessive push of confidence with the Tony Robbins, the Grant Cardone, the Gary Vee angle, the push, push, push pressure, and then a minute later, they’re coming. No, no. It’s all about love. We all need to. I think we all need to learn what love is. I don’t say need a lot of the times, but I also feel like love is not pressure. And the way that they push this and the way that many of these sales systems and especially those MLMs put this thing out, that this is the greatest thing in your world. That seems a little off and it seems a little uninviting now. The opinions of this person had this experience. Jump back to the CBD for a second. These people had this experience. It was really good for them.

Would you like to see if this lines up and works for you? It’s not being soft. It’s not being passive. It’s not even being submissive. It’s being engaging. It’s sharing. It’s building a conversation as opposed to reading off a script or pressuring or pushing, you know, some of these. I was listening to a podcast very early in the morning, and I try to listen to every single side and then from there, dig in a little deeper. And is this person just really emotional and like, you know, just into it? Great. If they are.

However, when that emotion and that excitement begins to shift and move an opinion to effect, I have a problem with that. And I want to see personally, more people be able to take those two steps back and say, I’m going to walk in the subjective. In the opinion, certain things I might even know are absolutely, objectively true. But I’m also going to walk in the humility of and the understanding that other people and the perceptions and the connotations of what people have received from so many that they’re tired. I’m going to think when I record a podcast, when I do a video, when I add a quote that how many people have heard something similar to that?

is your messaging clear, differentiate your opinions from facts, loren weisman, quoteSharing Opinions Instead Transcription

How many people have heard something different from that? How many people have heard it from a contradicting standpoint? And at the same time, maybe this isn’t for everybody. Maybe you think my podcast sucks. How do I respond to that? Thank you. You’re probably not going to want to Listen anymore. I have no right to change your mind if you don’t engage with the episodes that I’ve had. If you don’t engage with me, if you don’t engage with Fish Stewarding Group, if you don’t like what we’re about, fine. That’s your opinion. And that should be the same to me, the same opinion with any business, with any product.

It’s not converting people over to like what they don’t like. It could be instead a shift of engagement of stories, of different podcasts, of videos. Fish Stewarding Group, our key line inside of our stamp is stewarding strategic solutions. The second part of that is building authoritative businesses with authentically sound people. We don’t work with everybody. We can’t work with everybody. And not everybody would probably want to work with us, but we’re not trying to present that. And that’s what I ask you to consider.

Don’t try to be everything for everybody. These real estate agents, many of them, not all of them this aggressive, I can do, I can do this, I can work with anybody. No. And then, and then a second later it’s, but you have to have this credit score and you have to have this and you have to have that or this can work for everybody until it can’t. So many claims get buried. It’s not that you’re being overly exclusive, but to stand your ethical, moral and authentic ground can make all of the difference.

Think of how you could share something inside of a quote. Excuse me? Think of how you could add a thought where you’re not commentpreneuring all over LinkedIn. And I’m so tired of that personally. These people that go on and they have in their schedules, they have in their schedules spend X amount of time putting up this many comments, make sure always to say happy birthday.

    Sharing Opinions Instead Transcription Continued:

Make sure always to on a work anniversary to, you know, send a little note for me on my LinkedIn. If I get a note, if I haven’t heard from you in any way, shape or form, or you haven’t heard from me, and all of a sudden I see a note, congrats on your work anniversary, I immediately disconnect because to me it’s not a connection and I’m not trying to build up some kind of false numbers. Maybe it’s just not how I approach social and you might approach it differently, but to stay away from that feels a lot more authentic to me.

This person is not a connection to me in that too. From the idea of what you’re sharing online, do you really need I’m just so humbled to have 10,000 followers that usually to me, tends to make me one less of a follower. I’m not trying to be mean, but if the only content that you have is to try to brag, where does that present the perception to the first couple people that followed you, the first hundred, the first thousand?

It doesn’t. We can, if you choose, share and give in an engaging way that touches on the audience that already knows you, the people that may have heard of you in passing and have no idea who you are. I’m sorry. Third. And the people that have no idea who you are. In that we’re honoring all three of our audiences. And then in adding the understanding of perception, that moment right before you post, how many people maybe posted the exact same thing? Or maybe it’s so true to your intention and true to your heart. And true. And yet it’s been flagged, it’s been tagged, it’s been penalized.

It’s taking that one extra step. It’s not trying to hold you down or cover up or take away your creativity. It’s allowing you to take a second to decide how you want to be perceived. I was on a podcast a couple weeks ago with a guy, and I really enjoyed what he was about, but it was a lot of talk because the practices of authenticity went out the window when it came time to promote for him. I don’t believe in the whole Amazon, like the snapshotting of, you know, buying ads and then stating, oh, look at me, I’m the number one book in this, or I’m a top bestseller here.

I think I did an episode a while back talking about that with the Amazon books people congratulating themselves of being a top bestseller when they have positioned themselves and paid so they could get a whole bunch of downloads all at once, get a screenshot that within that minute and a half or so, they were number one, or they were, you know, very high up. And then, oh, this is so wonderful. Some of these Better Business Bureau flags and awards, oh, we’re so proud to be a part of this.

You paid in, you signed up, you got this thing. I mean, so great. That seems a little bit quick that you’re bragging there that that’s something you paid for these awards. So many of these awards and so many of these award shows, you pay to be nominated, you can even pay to win.

And then they’re going, I’m so humbled and honored. No, that’s a lie. And in that. And maybe they are humbled and honored that they paid for their own. So I guess I can’t call that a lie. But still, it’s running rampant of a lack of authenticity, a lack of morals, a lack of ethics, and maybe some of this. It doesn’t bother you, and that’s fine, and I don’t judge you for it.

Sharing Opinions Instead Transcription, cards, artists guide

    Sharing Opinions Instead Transcription

But if it does bother you, then consider being true. Consider moving to the subjective over the objective. Consider having enough humility to recognize an audience not for where you need to penetrate, but for where you need to engage, for where you can get together with someone and they can see something, and you consider the overwhelmed audiences of what they’re being told.

From politics to viruses to products to promises. I heard this, and this is that. All right, I, you know, I enjoy some of the conversations when someone says, I, you know, I believe this. Okay, where did you garner that from? I read it somewhere. Can you give me a little more? What, you don’t believe me? No, I just want to learn. I like to learn.

And I’d like you to consider educating your audience. And some of the things that you can share that might even be indirectly or only vicariously related to your products and services could serve you well in building trust and real trust, authentic trust, not this no like trust crap. I don’t like that. You got to build no like trust. What if you’re untrustworthy? These business people. I will get any business up to a point of $1 million in revenue by this point.

Do you really want to do that? If they’re saying they can do that for anybody, then that means their ethics in many cases are probably out the door. We’re coming into a time, I believe, of authenticity and hopefully true authority. We’re coming into a time where algorithms are changing, sites are being pushed down, people are being penalized that should be penalized because it’s all looking like sales hype. It’s different ways of how you phrase and what you phrase and what you do and those that stand in subjectivity, those that consider the compliance and are careful to state, okay, could this come back and bite us in the butt?

Well, it shouldn’t. Okay, maybe it shouldn’t. However, if something is going to happen like that, are you prepared and are you prepared, regardless of what you say and how you say it, are you prepared for whatever comes back? Because if you’re not, don’t put it out there. We’re in a very sensitive time, a sensitive culture. It’s. This morning, I saw the. There was something about an actor who. And again, I haven’t read all the articles on this, so I don’t know 100%. But he was saying he was very thankful for his beautiful wife and his beautiful and healthy new baby. I’m a father of a daughter. Be thankful of that too.

Apparently he was married to another celebrity and they had a special needs son together. I don’t understand that for him to make a statement, to state this, that it is throwing shade at his son and his ex. I bring that story up because this is the perception and regardless of what his intention is and not saying that he should have said anything differently. But right now, you’re going to watch certain things go into crisis management with his agent.

You’re going to see certain things come out from elections. We had a recent election and you watch how stuff what was said before and then when winners won and losers lost and people that were hoping to win lost, and then they flip around and they flip around a message and it continues to flip and flip and flip and it looks like a very confusing thing because there’s no foundation to it. And that’s the summary and that’s the point that I want to try to get to.

Let’s try or please consider the idea of finding that foundation, that subjective foundation that will back up your opinions and people will begin to see if your opinions are objectively true, that you are a source that can be trusted, that you’re not chasing after trust, but you’re earning trust, that you’re sharing and understanding the perceptions of others, that while it might be so true and correct to your heart, it might be read wrong. When you’re able to take those couple steps back in that subjectivity, in that humility and in that strategy while staying compliant.

Because right now, inside of subjectivity, compliance is a winner. Compliance is a winner because in that it won’t push you down, maybe you say, okay, you know, I’m going to save this for a website and I’m not going to pop it on Twitter or I’m not going to go over here or I’m going to, you know, I’m going to make sure to continue to get my words out, but I’m going to be careful where I choose them because this overarching, I’m just going to scream this to the world. It may push you down and not give you as much of an audience as you may like. Especially in these days, websites get put, oh, this isn’t fair. This isn’t right.

This is their platform. They can do whatever they want. When you consider your voice strategically ethically, subjectively and with a humility and an understanding that perceptions can be way different than intention. Think telephone game like when you were a kid, that one kid that started in one spot and it ended a completely different thing somewhere else. Keeping those things in mind as you create your content, as you put out your message, as you build your press releases, as you choose what you’re advertising and how you’re doing it, all of those thoughts doesn’t mean that you need to be a perfect messaging and optics strategist.

Doesn’t mean you need a messaging and optic strategist. But to take that second, to take those pauses and think about the state that we’re in, the way people are communicating, the way things are being read, the compliance issues that are coming up, just keeping that in the back of your mind, pausing for a second and then making decisions with those elements inside of your toolbox. Your content, your message, your brand may be able to reach and engage that many more people that much more often. Wait What Really OK.
